In a few minutes, I am going to be leading a meditative collage workshop. One of the things I love about collage; it can be as complicated or as simple as you like. Collage does not need any fancy equipment - simply a variety of paper whether it be specialty papers such as those used in scrapbooking or magazines or newspapers, glue and a pair of scissors. For me doing collage is honest prayer. I often do on the dies when my body is too tired for words or my brain feels overwhelmed or my heart is crying out but I cannot express the feeling.
I invite you to gather whether materials you have and just sit down for ten minutes and create. When the ten minutes are up, find a place to leave your materials for this week so that they can easily be picked up again and again. Use them as apart of your contemplative practice. Collage also lends itself to communal practice; invite your friends or family to gather with you, give everyone some materials, set a timer depending for whatever amount of time works for the group, create and then invite everyone to share reflections if they wish. Below are a few more of my collage reflections to inspire.
Consider joining one of my immersive experiences; Creativity and Silence or Old Testament Lectio Divina, these intensives will be offered August 20th-September 20th and will be customized based on the needs of the participants. Read about them at https://modernancientmysticism.com/creativityandsilence and https://modernancientmysticism.com/old-testament-lectio-divina.
