As the summer draws to a close, schools start and preparations for Fall Programming at church and among other civic groups, many of my plans have gone out the window, I have spent quite a bit of time especially these past couple weeks battling a sinus infection and feeling the excitement of change but not quite ready. Hence, the radiant seed. Several weeks ago, my friend and mentor, Alexander John, used the phrase, “radiant seed of the Holy One,” in one of his reflections. I do not recollect exactly how he used the phrase but it seems to fit for have been writing this article for weeks in my head but nothing has been put to paper. Today, the radiant seed burst into the beginnings of life. I say beginnings because every time in the last several years when I have become physically ill and forced to rest, the Spirit uses my recovery time as a reorientation.
Above is my latest mixed media work; I have not even titled. However, I am working on several pieces to be displayed during the Art Walk in Downtown Jackson on Friday September 1st from 3 p.m. - 6 p.m., and then afterwards from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. - I and the other creators at the Art on Shannon building will be sharing our art during, “Art After Dark. “ Using colored inks and cultivating a contemplative doodling practice are part of the “Radiant Seed of the Holy One” bursting forth in me.
Other thoughts are swirling and the winds of change are blowing as my combination of sabbatical time and pilgrimage to Spain are drawing near. I invite you to share where you are experiencing the radiant seed bursting in you.
